Cubs and Rays - best baseball stories of 08?

While it's been fun the past two decades to be a Gators fan, it's been much more difficult to be a Cubs fan. Actually, it's been much harder to be a Cubs fan longer than that - it's been 63 years since they've been in the World Series, and 99 since they've won it all.

But this year there is another team with long-suffering fans - The Tampa Bay Rays (formerly the Devil Rays).

From MLB.com

The Cubs, of course, are attempting to break the 100-year World Series Championship drought. All other franchise bouts of futility pale in comparison, but the 2008 Cubs do not remind you of futility. They are the best team the National League has to offer, by some significant distance, according to the most reliable source, the standings.

The Rays are at the other end of baseball's time continuum. Their entire history is but the blink of an eye compared to that of the Cubs. But the thing is, until this year, their history never contained more than 70 victories in a single season. And yet here they are, with less than two weeks remaining in the season, still leading the American League East with the second-best record in the AL.

Granted - I'm a bit biased. But in my opinion fans of a team that has not been around for even 2 decades can't compare to what Cubs fans have suffered through. What do you think?

Heroes and Villains

Next Monday one of the best shows on TV returns for it's Third Season. It's one of the few shows I'm really looking forward to this fall. (I'm really waiting for January when Lost and Battlestar Galactica return and Joss Whedon's Dollhouse starts up).

Catch up on Season 1 and 2 for FREE!

Being a comic-book geek (as well as movie geek, sci-fi geek, and well, all-around geek) I took to this show pretty early. Season 1 was great, and although Season 2 suffered a little bit, I think that things will be back on track here in Season 3 - which is sub-titled "Villains".

Here's an interview with Executive Producer Tim Kring on Newsarama on turning things around in Season 3

Hopefully it can recapture the magic of season 1.

Go Gators!

College football season is here and the Gators are 2-0 so far.

In my opinion, we looked pretty good against Hawai'i and Miami, but our offensive line still needs to gel a bit. Tebow's been as good as he needs to, and now Harvin is saying he's feeling better than he has in years (just in time for that rough SEC Schedule)

Unfortunately I'll be in Philly this weekend for family stuff and probably won't be able to watch the whole game - hoping for it to be an early blowout so that I don't have to stress.

What do you think?
